The ‘Theodor Herzl’ Centre for Israeli Studies decided to mark the 25th commemoration of the assassination of former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin by a right-wing extremist.
In the evening of 4th of November 1995, a right-wing militant and extremist shot Yitzhak Rabin in the square nearby Tel-Aviv municipality after a rally in his support. The criminal action was the result of an unprecedented campaign of incitement to hate and murder. The event had serious consequences for the political dynamics in Israel and in the Middle East.

The on-line meeting organised by the Centre will have Professor Itamar Rabinovich as main speaker. Professor Rabinovich is a prominent personality of the public and academic life in Israel. He was ambassador, rector and president of one of the most important universities in Israel, as well as an important collaborator of Yitzhak Rabin and the founding president of Israel Institute in Washington. In 2017 he became Doctor Honoris Causa of the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration in Bucharest (SNSPA).
On this occasion, we would like to invite you to commemorate together one of the most important personalities of the 20th century.

Centrul de Studii Israeliene "Theodor Herzl" a decis să marcheze comemorarea a 25 de ani de la asasinarea prmierului Yitzhak Rabin de către un extremist de drapta.
În seara zilei de 4 noiembrie 1995, un militant extremist de dreapta l-a împușcat pe Yitzhak Rabin, în Piața primăriei din Tel-Aviv, unde tocmai se încheiase un miting de sprijinire al acestuia. Actul criminal, era rezultatul unei propagande de incitare la ură și crimă, fără precedent în Istoria statului Israel. Actul criminal a avut urmări grave pentru dinamica politică din Israel și a întregului Orient Apropiat.

Evenimentul este marcat de conferința profesorului Itamar Rabinovich, o personalitate proeminentă a vieții publice și academice din Israel. A fost ambasador, a fost colaborator al lui Itzhak Rabin, rector și președinte al uneia dintre cele mai importante universități din Israel. Este președintele fondator al Institutului Israel din Washington, institut ce cultivă studiile israeliene. În 2017 a devenit Doctor Honoris Causa al SNSPA.
